The Pyrenees is famous for its high quality boutique wines. Fragrant Shiraz and complex Cabernet Sauvignon excel throughout the region. The climate is temperate with variations due to altitude. Dry autumns and cool nights make for perfect ripening conditions.
Although traditionally a red wine region, there has been signifi cant growth in white wine production. In particular, the region is now producing high quality methode traditionale champenoise wines, and you will also fi nd Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Riesling on tasting.
Varietals such as Sangiovese and Tempranillo are also emerging from a number of the wineries. The intimacy of the area is evident when visiting any of the wineries within the region. The winemakers are often on hand to discuss their personal wine styles with visitors and if time permits, a guided tour of the winery may be offered.
